A feature of Windows that lets you drag a document, picture or sound into another document. For example, if you type a letter in Word Pad and then want to add your signature, you start the Paint program, draw your signature and drag it into the Word Pad document. Embedding really means that you can include any compatible data object, such as the Paint file, in any other document.
